1983 Rainbow Planet (Children Opera)
Libretto by Tim Rose-Price. Commissioned and first performed by W11 Children’s Opera Group.
A sci-fi story about a battle between good and evil written in the early days of computer development. Musically easy to learn, with four main solo parts who carry much of the singing. The orchestral score includes recorders, 2 pianos, string quartet and much use of percussion. Age range of cast 9-18 with a bias towards younger groups.

 
 

1989 Yorkshire Glory – Symphonic portrait in 5 movements
Duration 53 minutes. Commissioned by Yorkshire Television enterprises. Recorded by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra with Vernon Handley conducting in 1989 & 1990. Released by YTV in 1991, DALE DL 2 CD

 

1995 Dawn preludes for solo piano
A suite of 6 contrasting short pieces.

 

1997 Aunt Vita – Children Opera
Libretto by Peter Best. Commissioned by the Finchley Children’s Opera Group.
First performed in May 2001 with Nicholas Wilks conducting, and subsequently also performed at Winchester college.

1998 The Lobster.
For speaker and chamber group. Libretto by Nick Darke. Duration approximately 21 minutes. Performed in the Purcell Rooml, 1998 by Nicole Tibbels (speaker) with the Mephisto Ensemble conducted by the composer. Recorded on the Meridian label. Meridian CDE 84498

Duration approximately 12 minutes. Recorded by the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by the composer, released by Albany Records in 2004, Albany Troy686.

 

2002 Poirot Variants.
Concert piece based on the theme of the BAFTA award winning TV series “Agatha Christie’s Poirot.” Duration 9 minutes approximately. Performed many times in the UK and abroad, at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Barbican Hall, Royal Albert Hall, and Royal Festival Hall London, and also by several young musician’s orchestras. Also appears on the CD “The Film and TV Music of Christopher Gunning” released by Chandos in 2010. CHAN 10625. Publishers Standard Music and Orchard Music Ltd.

Also performed at the 2015 Presteigne Festival with Katherine Thomas (solo flute) and The Presteigne Festival Orchestra conducted by George Vaas.

2012 Hector’s Return – Concert overture
Performed by three U.S. Orchestras (Bakersfield SO, Roswell SO, Santa Maria SO conducted by John Farrer) in 2012. Duration approximately 11 minutes.

 

2012 Night Voyage – Symphonic poem
Duration 12 minutes. Recorded by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by the composer – released on the Discovery label July 14th 2014 DMV 112

 

2012 Poirot Fantasy
Duration approximately 12 minutes. Commissioned by Anja Bukovec, this is a series of elaborate variations on the “Poirot” theme for violin and orchestra, performed and recorded by Anja Bukovec with the Slovenian Radio Symphony Orchestra, released in January 2013.

Recorded by Harriet Mackenzie (solo violin) with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by the composer. Released on the Discovery label in June 2016 DMV 119.

 

2013 D is for Daring for military band
Commissioned by the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines under the direction of Lieutenant colonel Nick Grace. Performed at their Summer Proms at Portsmouth Naval Base.
